This might have occurred to you…

How do I make sure that when customers think of buying a product or using a service, I am the first that comes to mind? How do I ensure that when customers go to a shopping mall, I am the product they are tirelessly looking for and not a second option to what they originally wanted?

As a business owner, your BRAND is what a customer knows, and not your product or your service.

Let’s unpack this a little further….

What is a BRAND?

A brand is a reputation. A brand is a name, term, design, symbol, or any feature that identifies one seller’s goods or service as distinct from those of other sellers.

Now that you know what a brand is, this should make you rethink if your business has a brand! Is there a distinct term, design, name or even symbol that anyone can link to your product or service when they hear of it?

No?

Then we have some work to do…

HOW TO MAKE YOUR BRAND STAND OUT:

1. Define your brand: Find something about your product that you know will easily catch on to your customers. It can be your company colour like the red in Coca Cola, a term like Sasso- ‘kum ntomntom pr3ko’, company logo like Apple products or even a name like ‘Pepsodent’, which is used to refer to all Ghanaian toothpastes! *see what they did with their brand there? *

2. Position your brand: Once you have a brand, make sure that your brand is what customers see, hear, and think about all the time. This can be done through advertisements on TV, social media, billboards and even in the newspapers! You can also get personal brand ambassadors who would refer your product or service to as many people as they know. Also, let your product or service be physically available everywhere your target customer is, so they can utilise your product or service

This may seem like a lot, but it is worth it when you are getting a lot of orders and requests for your products or services.

3. Pay attention to your brand: building a brand is a long and difficult process. It’s not an event. Keep iterating your strategies and adapting until your brand goals are met. A good brand sells itself. It would get tiring and frustrating, but when you succeed, it would be a whole world full of style and glamour! So, do not give up just yet! Let your brand be known!

I hope this article has got you thinking on the next big thing to do, and I cannot wait to see and hear of your brand!
